Justice is personal. So are we.
Michael Phillips
Solicitor
BSocSc (Psyc), LL.B, Grad. Dip. Leg. Prac.
I joined Lumme & Associates in 2022, first as a voluntary student placement, then as a Law Clerk. From day one, I was immersed in the fast-moving world of criminal defence — appearing on mentions, instructing counsel on sentences and trials in the District and Supreme Courts.
I consider myself fortunate to have gained this experience so early in my career, providing me with valuable insight into how the legal system operates. In 2024, I was admitted as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of Queensland, and I now continue my journey with Lumme & Associates.
Before studying law, I earned a degree in psychology and worked in various roles supporting the community. These roles saw me advocating for those in crisis and navigating complex legal and social frameworks. I worked with people with disabilities to advocate for employment, healthcare, and human rights. I also spent five years as a support worker assisting children in the child safety system. Those experiences shaped my approach to the law — with a deep understanding of human behaviour, a strong sense of justice, and a commitment to standing up for those who need it most.
Outside of work, you’ll likely find me fishing, camping, or somewhere outdoors.
